  BREAKING: UN tells Nigeria to unconditionally release, compensate Nnamdi Kanu The United Nations, UN Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, has indicted both Nigeria and Kenya Governments for the arrest and extraordinary rendition, torture and continued detention of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, without due process. UN therefore, asked Nigerian Government to, “immediate release Kanu unconditionally” and pay him adequate compensations for the arbitrary violation of his fundamental human rights. It also recommended that Government officials responsible for the torture meted to the IPOB Leader be investigated and punished. The UN body further directed Nigeria to report back within six months of the transmission of its opinions on Kanu’s matter, steps taken to comply with all the recommendations thereof.   Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the request of the Incorporated Trustees of Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy to apply for an order of mandamus that will compel the inspector-general of police (IGP) to prosecute the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, over alleged perjury. The court granted the leave while delivering ruling in an ex-parte application argued by the group through its lawyer, Mr Ugo Nwofor. The ex-parte application was filed by the group following the alleged refusal of the inspector-general of police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, to effect the arrest and prosecution of the former Lagos State governor for allegedly supplying false information on oath in respect of his educational qualifications.

  Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have again arrested three men suspected to be agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress for alleged vote-buying in the ongoing gubernatorial elections in Osun State. The agents were nabbed at the polling unit 02, ward 2, Ababa, Ifelodun street, Isale Osun. They were caught with bags of cash as they were “inducing voters” during the electioneering process.   In the bid to stop the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate   Bola Tinubu   and Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi from selecting Kashim Shettima and Datti Baba-Ahmed as their running mates, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission. The PDP also asks the court to rule that Tinubu and Obi cannot run for office unless they do so with their respective former running mates, Kabiru Masari and Doyin Okupe. In the originating summons with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1016/2022, the PDP is seeking an order barring the Independent National Electoral Commission from replacing the running mates of Tinubu and Obi.
