Breaking news: Universities announces resumption

On Tuesday, the Congress Of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA), sat for an emergency meeting to determine the resumption date for members to resume academic activities in public universities.

This comes after the union was registered and had gotten approval from the Federal Government, to operate as one of the unions representing the Nigerian lecturers.

CONUA called for a meeting at UNIBEN Sports Complex parking lot, to deliberate on the way forward, and also to consider Federal Government's directive to resume academic activities with immediate effect.

The union came to an agreement that the date for the commencement of academic activities is Wednesday, October 5, and all lecturers under the body are mandated to commence work without further delay.

The union also advised members to desist from engaging in physical and verbal fights with ASUU, but should rather report similar incidents to the authorities. Members were also informed that their salaries for the past months would be paid to them in due time.

Recall that the Federal Government through the Minister for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, announced that the newly registered unions (CONUA and NAMDA are to exist alongside ASUU to ensure that ASUU does not cripple the academic sector through it's incessant strike actions.
