Nigerian Senators Demand Release Of Nnamdi Kanu, Ask Buhari Government To Consider Dialogue

The South-East Caucus in the Nigerian Senate has demanded the release of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, as ordered by the Court of Appeal.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the senators urged the President and the Federal Government to obey the order of the court and pursue dialogue and genuine reconciliation instead of appealing against the judgment.

The statement was signed by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Majority Whip), Senator Chukwuka Utazi (Minority Whip), Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe, Uche Ekwunife (Iyom), Stella Oduah, Sam Egwu, Obinna Ogba, Theodore Orji (Ochendo), Chimaroke Nnamani, Micheal Nnachi, Onyewuchi Ezenwa, Rochas Okorocha, Frank Ibezim and Patrick Ifeanyi Uba.

The caucus noted that the Appeal Court judgment presented the government an opportunity to consider a political solution to solve the lingering problem in the interest of the country’s unity and peaceful coexistence of Nigerians.

CAN President distances self from APC presidential campaign list
PRESIDENT, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has distanced himself from the revised list of members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and presidential campaign council wherein names of some officials of the organisation were featured.

In a statement on Thursday night, he said the umbrella Christian body will investigate the matter after which fair, but decisive and appropriate action will be taken.

The statement read, “My attention as President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has been drawn to the revised list of members of the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 President Campaign Council wherein the names of some outgoing officials of the body were featured.

“Such a development is worrisome because it counters the well-known stance of CAN on partisanship.
“I want to categorically exonerate my humble self from this development and any of such that may occur in the future and also, assure all Christians in Nigeria and the general public that since I received the news, I have commenced full investigation into how the officials got involved into overt partisanship.
